The idea for Sangria is to have a cheap drunk. The base for this wonderful drink is the cheapest wine you have, preferably red. I usually make this drink a couple times a year and when I make it I make a large amount of it. We usually enjoy it sometime for summer around July and then again at Christmas time.
You can store it in your refrigerator inside a closed container, either a pitcher or bowl with a lid. I usually mix mine in a huge bowl. I add equal amounts of fruit to two empty 3 quart pitchers. I then pour equal amounts of the liquid into the pitchers with the fruit. I seal each one tight with their lids and then store in the refrigerator for at least 3 days before drinking.
The fruit also absorbs the alcohol and you can eat it along with adding it to the poured glasses as a garnish.
INGREDIENTS:
· A bottle of cheap red wine (cheaper the better)
· Juice or Pop *
· Shot of alcohol* (brandy, whiskey or rum)
· Fruits (apples, oranges, peaches, or whatever you have)
*f you use juice, I recommend pure orange juice, grape juice or pineapple juice. One flavor of juice or soda pop is enough and I usually measure by the wine bottle. If I use one bottle of wine, I fill that one time with my juice or soda pop.
If you use soda pop, I recommend something clear like sprite, 7up, or sierra mist; you could also use flavored pop like grape or orange.
* Use one shot of alcohol per bottle of wine.
